Volunteer opps for animal lovers

Do you have a soft spot for animals and want to gain experience caring for them? Then it’s time to check out a couple of fun ways to pursue your interest this summer!

The Denver Dumb Friends League has over 70 volunteer positions ranging from helping with pets and people, working with cameras or computers, or assisting veterinarians or educators. Applicants must be at least 16 years old (some positions require individuals to be at least 18 years of age) and able to make a commitment of approximately three hours per week for six months at its shelters, or three hours a week for three months at its Harmony Equine Center. Freedom Service Dogs of America, based in Englewood, rescues dogs from shelters, trains them and releases them to people with disabilities who need their services.  They offer a variety of positions including dog contact (petting, walking the dogs), publicity (public speaking, representing the organization among the public), kennel maintenance, office volunteer and other opportunities. If you live in or close to Colorado Springs, Chihuahua & Small Dog Rescue in the Springs has various volunteer opportunities for teens including  cleaning crates, bathing the dogs, and walking them, as well as participation in bake sales. For more information, click here.
