South Metro: South Suburban is hiring lifeguards

South Suburban Parks and Recreation is looking for young people who are at least 15 years old to work as night and weekend lifeguards at various locations in the South Metro area . Because the company expects some work on nights and weekends, this may be a tough job to maintain during the school year — but it couldn’t hurt to look into the opportunities. “The successful candidate is responsible for duties that ensure the lives and safety of members and guests at South Suburban Aquatics Facilities. This position works under the direction and supervision of an Aquatics Coordinator and Pool Manager.” –SSPR website

Job requirements:

  • Must be currently certified by the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist and lift.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 pounds, unassisted, on a daily basis.
  • With assistance and on occasion, the ability to lift 100 pounds safely.
  • Ability to safely extricate individuals from a pool who vary in weight, with or without assistance, at any given time.
  • Must have 20/20 vision or 20/20 vision corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses.
  • Ability to react effectively to all potential mental, physical, and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a First Responder.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training pre and post requisites for the duration of employment.
  • Must attend monthly in-service training and verify skill competencies.
  • Must be able to hear noise either naturally or with electronic auditory assistance equivalent to that of normal conversation up to 30 meters away.
  • Must be 15 years or older.

Job responsibilities:

  • Prevents accidents through the enforcement of organizational policies, rules and regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using swimming pools.
  • Maintains discipline in and around the pool area. Performs the functions of a professional lifeguard as defined by the current “standards of care” established by the American Red Cross and/or equivalent certification.
  • Performs maintenance duties as required and directed to maintaining swimming pool decks and surrounding areas to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy aquatic environment.
  • Maintains and logs pool chemical reading on a 3-hour interval or as directed. Instructs swim lessons to clientele of various abilities.
