Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), a campaign of Youth Service America (YSA), is based on the understanding that, “You don’t need to wait until you grow up to change the world. Children and teens are creating change every day through service to others. On Global Youth Service Day, we come together to celebrate.”

GYSD is made possible by young people and partner organizations around the world who launch service projects and events in their own communities. BraveTracks’ Youth Advisory Board is honored to announce that we will be sponsoring a book drive to benefit two phenomenal organizations –  Reading Partners and Reach Out and Read Colorado - as our GYSD 2014 project! We will be collecting new or gently used books (pre-school – young adult) between April 1st and April 30th at the following locations: Denver School of the Arts, Littleton High School, East High School, Colorado Academy, Cherry Creek High School and Legends Baseball Club (southwest corner of Quebec and Leetsdale in Denver).

If you or your school, club or youth organization are interested in joining our GYSD 2014 project, we would welcome your participation! Email Raphae at raphaeposner@gmail.com or Liz at liz@bravetracks.org. Thank you for your support! For more information about BraveTracks’ project, click here. About Reading Partners: Reading Partners engages passionate community members, including high school students, to work one-on-one with struggling elementary student readers. For a small commitment of one hour per week, volunteer tutors help students build their confidence and master the fundamental reading skills they need to reach their full potential.

About Reach Out and Read Colorado: Reach Out and Read prepares Colorado’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. Reach Out and Read trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at pediatric checkups from 6 months to 5 years of age with a special focus on children growing up in poverty.
