Foundation holds key to your bright future

Are you a high school student in a Denver Public School? Is going to college part of your Big Dream? Then you need to check out the Denver Scholarship Foundation, a Colorado non-profit organization who’s mission it is to “inspire and empower Denver Public School (DPS) students to achieve their post-secondary educational goals by providing the tools, knowledge and financial resources essential for  success.”

Started in 2006 by Lincoln High School graduate Tim Marquez and his wife, Bernadette, DSF has helped 7,200 seniors earn $62 million in scholarships, and it has helped increase the rate at which DPS graduates enroll in college by 25 percent, from 1,230 in 2006 to 1,585 in 2010. The Denver Scholarship Foundation also awards scholarships to low- and middle-income DPS graduates attending college in Colorado.

DSF’s method for success is founded on:

  • Future Centers” in DPS high schools with staff, many of whom are bi-lingual, who provide students with personal guidance through the college selection, application and financial aid processes.
  • Need-based scholarships to attend any one of 39 technical schools, community college and four-year colleges and universities in Colorado.
  • College Success Services ensure that students enrolled in college successfully complete their course of study.

To receive a DSF Scholarship, you must complete the organization’s application process and meet the following requirements:

  • Attend a DPS High School for all four consecutive years before graduation.
  • Graduate from a DPS High School with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Be eligible to receive Federal Student Financial Aid.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
