Apply now for the 2014 Girls’ Leadership Council

The Women’s Foundation of Colorado (WFCO) announced today that applications are officially open for its summer 2014 Girls’ Leadership Council (GLC). A collaborative project of WFCO and Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, the program is available to Colorado current high school sophomores. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 3, 2014 at 5 p.m.

Twenty young women will be selected to participate in a one-week intensive on-site program held at the University of Denver. According to WVCO’s website, “[t]he program is designed to allow each girl to discover her own power to assist in her community.” In addition to learning about critical issues facing women today, including economic self-sufficiency, careers in STEM, civic engagement, diversity and inclusivity and leadership development, participants will be trained in the grant-making process. After reviewing grant applications, the students will have the unique opportunity to invest $20,000 to nonprofit organizations that ensure girls graduate from high school and promote STEM careers. Two exemplary participants will be awarded a $1,500 Dottie Lamm Leadership Award to support their future educational expenses, and two participants who have demonstrated academic excellence and have an interest in pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) will receive a $1,500 Lockheed Martin STEM Career Academic Award.
